Did anyone see World News last night about the there being more oil in the US than all of the middle east?

Thats right!  In Rifle Colorado there is trillions of barrels of oil in the shale rock!    Supposedly their are some issues to extracting the oil due to another serious commodity such as water.     I think if we can drill in the middle of the ocean we surely could overcome a water obstacle.

Experts have known about this for years.  There is even a secret refinery project that has been in place for years.   I think if they stepped it up a notch we can reduce our independency on foreign oil if not drop our dependency altogether.

Foreget drilling in the Ocean over the next 10yrs and start drilling in Colorado!

Give a shout out?

Isn't it harder and more expensive to process than normal oil? It would help make us be independent of other countries, but the price wouldn't come down much.

It's incredibly expensive to get oil from shale rock. Please search "oil shale rock economy". Wiki has a great explanation of what it takes and how much it costs. Start there.

Our country should be investing in alternative power as that is where everything is going. Cars will not be running on gas within 10 years and plastics will not require oil either in about the same time frame. SO, you are asking to invest millions, if not billions, in a technology that will be obsolete in 10 years or less. It's kinda like XM/Serious radio. It has always been a bad idea to invest in thier market because it was never going to last long enough to take off. Internet radio was always the smarter way to go.

I agree that we are in dire need of alternative fuel. But as an alternative to McCains calling to drill in the ocean I think shaling for oil would be a faster cheaper route. I'm all for alternative fuel. I'm a ex Coloradoan and would hate to see those beautiful mountains destroyed with oil riggings. I think either route we take it will take years before the cost of anything begins to come back down.

I am a Hawaiian born and raised in Colorado Springs CO. Where I have made skiing my favorite passtime since I was 15. Career wise I had been a technician for 20 years. I had recently retired to pursue my own dreams. I'm glad that I did because a year later, my company closed it's doors for good. Today, I'm married to an AZ born and raised girl, living in Scottsdale and everyday... I reminisce about Colorado's cool breezy days!
