Thank God for this miracle, after 5 horrible years as FARC hostages these men are free and back home in the states. I know many people wonder what took so long for the Colombian government to act. Reality is they could have acted years ago, the question was should they , with prior rescue attempts, when Colombian military breached into FARC territories, these cowards would execute the hostages in that camp.  So what is next the US and Colombian government are discussing weather they should negotiate peace with them or continue to punish them with military force? In my opinion we should not negotiate with them after all they have been a terrorist group for over 4 decades killing and kidnapping thousands of people including US Citizens and other foreign citizens. These guys need to be disarmed and put in jail, or how Colombian has been doing for the past 6 years  killing these guys. Now this brings up another thing do you think its right for Colombia to cross borders to capture these scumbags??? If we had OSAMA in Mexico or Canada and knew we had the chance to kill him would we??? Also to later find out that our neighbors are harboring these groups what would our reaction be? FARC needs to be finished off because they are still hurting My Colombian society and My American society with kidnapping and drug trade which leads to endless crime problems here in the states.

Yes God does work in mysterious ways! I think God would have had these people home a lot sooner though. But for 1.3 billion dollars in military appropriations lobbyied by John McCain's Oil Lobbyist for Colombia since 2003 it's no surprise that FARC finally gave up something for all that American Taxpayer GOD giving money.

No "OCCIDENTAL" that John McCain was there to suck up to the cameras and steal the Glory of God from the captured Americans and the Captured Presidential Candidate from 2000.

I personally thing GOD worked in a mysterious way by showing these people for whom they really are and the fact that John McCain, I wish there was another George Bush attack on america "Charlie Black" a pass.

What does Obama have to do with FARC or this "OCCIDENTAL" show for John McCain.

Read America, stop being so gullable! It's not "PARSLEY" day everyday! We gave them 1.3 billion dollars, to deal or not to deal. The question is why did it take so long. "CAFTA"
Oil rights from Colombian Indians!

I think with the GOP Republicans, would do anything right now to not lose all the ill-fated attempts against the American people as a whole! We are not all "Privately Held" yet!

I know nothing about Colombia, but I do know this was a deal or no deal as a result of a 1.3 billion Appropriations for OIL RIGHTS! CAFTA SHAFTA!

Columbia is on the right path and needs to perserve, the USA should continue to assist no matter who is president.
Yes they had every right to cross the borders after these murderers. I would hope we would do the same.

Anyone willing to offer a brief history lesson on the FARC situation?

The first question that comes to mind is: why now?

This is the most accurate and short version of their history courtesy of MILITARY.com/Resources

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) was born from the civil war that devastated Columbia from 1948-1958. The war between the Liberal and Conservative political parties was sparked when agents of the conservative government assassinated liberal party leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. The ensuing civil war resulted in the deaths of over 200,000 Columbians and spawned a plethora of guerrilla groups. One such group, headed by Manuel Marulanda, broke off from the Liberals and in 1966 and became the Marxist-oriented FARC.

FARC gained some influence in the country's remote rural areas but remained a marginal group throughout the sixties and seventies. In the eighties however, FARC's power increased dramatically as it began extorting taxes from Columbia's flourishing drug trade. Income from the drug taxation, now estimated to be around $300 million per year, resulted in a sharp increase in the group's ability to acquire arms and new recruits.

In 1984 the government of conservative president Belisario Betancur negotiated a cease-fire with FARC and two smaller insurgency groups, M-19 and EPL. Amnesty was granted to many FARC prisoners and the group renounced its armed struggle. The cease-fire allowed the formation of right-wing paramilitary groups who began to mount attacks against FARC that eventually led to a breakdown of negotiations. By 1986 all efforts to find a peaceful solution were abandoned by both sides and the guerrillas retreated into the mountains to face a n
