Ok, all...

Confession time.  Finally did it.  Put up our first artificial Christmas tree.

Like many of you, I grew up in a climate that allowed a tree that had probably been cut down a month before to survive another month in the living room before dropping its needles in a piney heap on the tree skirt.  And the wonderful scent...  Nothing like it.

Arizona, however, has not that climate.  Here, Christmas trees have a shelf life that's measured in minutes, not weeks.  Last year I actually returned a Christmas tree to the store from which it had come because its needles were tinkling to the floor just two weeks after purchase.  Now, I'm not saying that the return was a hassle, but the store, the name of which rhymes with "schmarget," was not enthusiastic about my refund.  It was eventually accomplished, but not at full price because I didn't have my receipt.  Silly me.  No receipt for my Christmas tree.  Usually I keep those things around until Valentine's Day, just to be safe.

Anyway, we found a $450, 9-foot, pre-lit tree that looked like it had been made by Santa's own elves for about $90 just after last Christmas.  Jackpot!

Put it up over the weekend, and you could almost hear the angels singing as the lights (every ONE of them) flashed on!  I'm a believer!

Now the only glitch is to persuade three daughters that it'll be ok.  They're already reminiscing about that sweet forest scent.

I think a few pine air fresheners tucked into the boughs just may do the trick...  Any suggestions?

Fake!!
It's safer. We bought our 9ft. tree 12 years ago for over $400. it takes about three hours to set it up because you have to dress out every branch one at a time, then place them in the tree trunk. But it's all worth it!!

It's a beautiful tree every year, no bald spots, no needels in the rug, no dried out tree to get rid of, no fire hazard!!!

Cory, you heathen! I hope your daughters put your hand into a pan of warm water while you sleep. Kids NEED the tradition of a real Christmas tree. They will remember for the rest of their lives coming home and smelling that wonderful pine scent when they lived with mom and dad.

The time to get a plastic tree is after the kids are grown and gone...and you have no real reason to live anymore.

Cory I was born and raised in Az and have never had a real tree. They are messy, stinky, and a major fire hazard. Not to mention the downright murder of a perfectly good tree. But then again most people dont agree with the fact that my children never have and never will believe in Santa, tooth fairy, etc...But that is a totally different subject. Arizona just is not the right place for real trees and your kids will understand in time. They got over your lying to them about Santa didnt they? Or do they still believe?

"Not to mention the downright murder of a perfectly good tree."

That's like "murdering perfectly good lettuce to make a salad." Christmas trees are raised on farms for one purpose only...to be Christmas trees.

Most of your Christmas trees are raised for that purpose. But there are still people who just go out into the forest and choose one. Yes it is illegal but so is alot of other things that are done anyway.

We put up an artificial tree as well. This year I was able to find pine scented freshners (actually they were labeled as ornaments)that are made by Yankee Candle. They came three to a pack, and they smell nice- not overwhelming. I bought them out at Luke AFB, but I am sure you can find them where Yankee Candles are sold.

I know, I know, Common_Sense... I resisted as long as I could!

If I didn't fear that the tree would go up like Michael Jackson's hair I'd put up with it, but last year's model was SO dry that the slightest bump sent a shower of needles to the floor.

And wow! Three hours to set up your tree, justtold44? I guess technology is always on the move. This thing we bought comes in three pieces, branches already attached, lights loaded... Just have to stick it together and fluff those branches! Ten minutes!

Anyway, we bought the girls a three-foot real evergreen for the playroom so they can get a whiff whenever they want!

Merry Christmas!

OK, I retract the "heathen" description.

However, I am thinking about getting a 9' plastic Cory McCloskey. Then I won't have to watch the morning show anymore because the plastic Cory will be "just as good." See my point? (wink)

Merry Christmas to you and your wife and kids, Cory!

Thanks for checking in! My goal is to make Fox10 mornings fun ones, and I'm still having a blast after all these years... When I'm not at the station, my wife and I are usually chasing around three kids, two dogs and a cat or ramming around the Valley in the Sedona. If you see me out and about anywhere, be sure to say howdy!
