By “they,” I mean Conservatives.  Scare the older generation about rebellious youth and you garner votes.  Hitler used the same scare tactics when he denounced the rebellious youth before he came into power.

The hippies were harmless but the Conservatives branded them with every conceivable slander they could muster.  The Communists were going to march right into our country and take it over because the hippies were peaceful and would not take up arms:   Peace, Flowers, Freedom, Happiness!  The hippies had a Communist agenda.  Well, no takeover happened.

I grew up during the 50’s and I will admit that it was a nice, peaceful time.  And you could leave your house without locking the door and leave your bedroom window open at night.  I hated polio shots!  However, there were bad kids during that time that got sent to reform school.  Kids threw firecrackers at cars that resulted in tragic car accidents.  There was Ed Gein.  Teenagers cussed out adults during the 50’s.   Condoms were hidden in the backroom of a drugstore, therefore, many teenage girls became pregnant.  A Jewish grocery store would be picketed if it was open on a Sunday.   Kids were being abused and no adult would believe them. There were children in my own neighborhood who were being abused and molested.   Many schools incorporated corporal punishment which only served to build up anger in youth.  A kid was told not to dare bring anyone into the home who was Jewish or of color.  Every white kid was told repeatedly that whites would one day be made into slaves.   “Better dead than red” was the mantra.  Well, it never materialized.   Conservatives know that kids are impressionable and if you scare the daylights out of them, they will believe the shibboleths told to them.

Conservatives are using the same scare tactics regarding this Presidential election by stressing that Muslims are suppose to take over this country.  Rubbish!   Fortunately, the young voters will no longer pay attention to the fear factor and will vote Democrat.

Looks like you broke the code a long time ago, GayIsGood.

Maybe others will wake up and think for themselves.

Chears.

I have to agree with you, GIG, times are so much better now than they ever were in the past. Just the fact that this female managed to graduate college and may go on to be a professor someday is reason enough to thank the women 'soldiers' who came before me to fight for equality for all people no matter the creed, sex and race. I only wish that someday soon, 'they' will recognize you as someone who can make your own decisions about how to live your life just as 'their' kids will do regardless of whether or not 'they' ever some into contact with a Muslim, a powerful woman or a homosexual.

Actually it was Johnson's Presidency that started taking action against the war protesters and carried over into the Nixon Presidency. The war was ended by Nixon. You might want to check your facts. http://www.essortment.com/all/vietnamwarprot_rlcz.htmr>
Not much has changed as far as children being abused and some of the worst states are Vermont and Massachusetts. Both are predominatly Democrat. Vermont's governor will not allow Megan's Law be passed. Vermont will not even give info out on sex offenders so you can't even find out if your neighbor is one. http://www.dps.state.vt.us/cjs/s_registry.htm It has been passed here and many other states, mostly republican led. I still think you need to get your facts straight.

Now Muslim's are a whole nuther subject. It isn't the conservatives saying they want to take over the world it is their Iman's whole take the Koran and use it to preach hated of all religions other than Muslim. They do not tolerate Homosexuality at all and they believe in killing their women for things you take for granted. Again you have your facts wrong and this is just more typical nonsense we can expect from the left wing of your party. Regards,

NoFear, True....the Vietnam War did come to an end under Nixon's regime. However, LBJ was the President who escalated the Vietnam War to horrendous proportions and would come on TV practically every night with his famous lamenting, "My fellow Americans...My heart hangs heavy." The pressure from the Vietnam War was so mind-boggling that he elected to resign. By the way, LBJ had documents that none of his properties in Texas could be sold to blacks.

The Liberals don't want any part of the current War in Iraq and surrounding territories because we know how Gays are treated in those countries and how women are stoned to death for adultery (the men get off scot-free). Men are also sanctioned by custom to hit their wives even out in public. Most Liberals are isolationists.

Hughie, the 50's were a marvelous time (great rock 'n roll music), however, alot of people closed their eyes and were oblivious to shameful practices surrounding their ivory towers.

Hughie, I'm glad you want others to wake up and to think for themselves.

aksjfd, women were shamefully discriminated in the past and there is still some discrimination going on in the present. If one is a strict constructionist to the U.S. Constitution, women may never have received the vote since their narrow minds would read, "All men are created equal."

I still remember my Mom working very hard while her male superiors were making so much more money. Wrong and an abomination!

One day there will be a woman President.

GIG , women still get paid less for the same or in some cases higher responsibility jobs. This is one other thing we can agree on. My wife is a senior manager at her company and there are men there that hold equal positions and they do make more and yearly increase they get more. It ain't right and that's all I got to say on that.

GIG Discrimination was and is rampant it's just the victims that change over time, yes gays have been discriminated against, women don't get paid at the same level guess
what per the EEOC age discrimination is rampant. I will not defend any unfair behavior; the problem is when the powers that be try to “FIX” it.
The company I work for is very liberal California based and is on a push to diversify, fine. Problem is that they are promoting many (not all) women into positions they are not ready for they do poorly and it creates hard feelings among other people, including some gay males, that were more qualified that had all of the relevant qualifications and experience. You can’t right a wrong with another wrong.
Regarding the Muslim part you should be worried, the conservatives that you so dislike are not making this up. Islam as a religion requires true believers to live in an Islamic world; there is no room in the religion for tolerance or getting along with non-Muslims.
That’s the religions position; it’s in the Koran for all to read.

It is amazing how the leftist aka progressives cry about discrimination. This is the party that during WW II rounded up and imprisoned hundred of thousands of American citizens simply because of their national origin.
The leftist aka progressives cry they are the party of anti war. Yet this party was in charge when America entered into the war in Vietnam. Per the leftist aka progressives this war was started to stop communism.

DMG2FUN, you are correct about the Democrats being the WAR party during the 20th century. It's true. Practically all the wars were started while a Democrat was in the White House. The Democrats, however, changed when the Vietnam War escalated and the Liberal Democrats turned on LBJ. The street riots in Chicago 1968 will prove that point. The Democrats are now the anti-war party.

The Republicans had a long history of being anti-war. The Republicans did not want government getting involved in the private lives of others, too.

There has been a change over the past several decades. The Republicans now crave family values and are pro-War. The Democrats are now anti-war but still continue with more Government spending and have a large Liberal base.

Changed? If I recall the majority of the leftist aka progressives voted for the war in Iraq. Now they have changed their story to the other side. It appears change is the only thing the leftist aka progressives do. Stay the course is something leftist aka progressives cannot do.
Which party started to fight a war to end slavery?

JustMePA, I don't think Muslims will one day take over the United States. China is a big threat to the Muslim agenda and China would be more than happy to destroy any insubordination.

DMG2FUN,the Republicans were abolitionists but Lincoln had to inaugurate the Civil War because the Union was at stake after the Confederates attacked Fort Sumter. The Democrats were the Party for States Rights and Secession and were pro-slavery. The South staunchly voted Democrat in all elections but later their votes switched to the Republican Party with the advent of Ronald Reagan. The South has gone "red" solidly in the past few Presidential elections.

Actually you are wrong on so many levels. i go to school with a lot of kids and most are going to vote for Mccain because he happens to be better than Obama on so many levels. Plus Mccain has experience. Also the indoctrination from the Republicans is a false sure they put ideals out there but it is not racist.
The real indoctrination comes from our nations colleges. The teachers are very liberal and they pass on their socialist ideals. I will not vote obama as will all my friends.

Now, all of my friends are telling me that they will be voting for Barack. Of course, some people can tell you to your face that they will be voting for a particular candidate, but when the time comes to mark the ballot in private, he or she can place that mark for somebody else.

Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice will stomp for McCain in public, but when the time comes for them both to vote in private, I'm pretty confident that they will both be pulling the lever for Barack.
