Republican Presidential hopeful Rudy Guliani recently stated that "illegal Immigration is not a crime" in an interview with CNN Headline News and radio talk-show host Glenn Beck.

"It's not a crime," Giuliani said Friday. "I know that's very hard for people to understand, but it's not a federal crime."

"I was U.S. attorney in the Southern district of New York," he said. "So believe me, I know this. In fact, when you throw an immigrant out of the country, it's not a criminal proceeding. It's a civil proceeding."

Illegal immigration shouldn't be a crime, either, Giuliani said: "No, it shouldn't be because the government wouldn't be able to prosecute it. We couldn't prosecute 12 million people. We have only 2 million people in jail right now for all the crimes that are committed in the country, 2.5 million."

He added: "My solution is close the border to illegal immigration."

People, lets be rational, undocumented immigrants are not criminals. If we were in their shoes, we would be doing the same thing. Now, tell me that you don't work to survive and support your family as Americans? Are you telling me then that you are criminal for doing such thing, breaking your backs at work to keep the American Dream alive in your family? That is what most undocumented immigrants do in this country. Try to be unbiased and and look at this social issue from different perspectives. Envision yourself living as an undocumented immigrant. What would you do? Honestly?

A uniformed, on-duty Mesa police sergeant was among dozens who hurled insults or obscene gestures at immigrant protestors earlier this week, the Mesa Police Department announced Thursday.

Sgt. Mike Doherty, a 20-year veteran, will be disciplined for making an insulting gesture with his hands at a group of about 30 protestors twice when he drove past them Wednesday at Alma School Road and Main Street in his marked police truck, said spokeswoman Holly Hosac.

A few protestors took down Doherty’s license plate number and description and reported him to the department, Hosac said.

Neither Doherty nor a representative of Immigrants Without Borders, who organized the protest, could be reached for comment late Thursday.

The Mesa protest group was among several throughout the Valley who were trying to bring attention to new laws that will punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants.

Their signs said things like “I am your cook,” and “Sorry your house isn’t clean.” Doherty told Mesa investigators his gestures were not ethnically motivated, pointing out that his wife is Hispanic, Hosac said.

He told them “he just has a general distaste for protestors,” she said.

“Regardless of why, it is just not how an officer should behave,” Hosac said.

Doherty, 45, who had just recently become a school resource officer after years on patrol, will continue working as an officer while the department figures out his punishment, Hosac said.

However, he has been removed from working in schools, she said.

Doherty was one of more than 200 Mesa officers whose e-mails were flagged last year during a city investigation into inappropriate use. He was suspended for 40 hours after that investigation, Hosac said. This news article is brought to you by http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/96743 This story saddens me.  How can we have individuals in supervisory positions, making lots of money, and acting like little kids?  That is sad.  I am glad that this man is going to receive some discipline for his actions.  He doesn't have the slightest clue of what serving his community really is. I have respect for uniformed peace officers because they are out there protecting our liberties but when I see actions like these being displayed at our community, it saddens me to know that there are some black sheep among the good.

On August 16, 2007, an altered photograph of Sheriff Joe Arpaio surfaced on the internet and was distributed through email.  This photograph reached Bermudez's computer and he himself forwarded the photograph to other individuals.  Sheriff Arpaio got a hold of the altered photo through the local media and there was a pointing of fingers and the man who was pointed at the most was Elias Bermudez.  Elias Bermudez made a statement to the media that he was not the creator of the altered photo but merely an advocate of it's reproduction over email.  He has since apologized to Sheriff Arpaio on air at a local television news channel.  Arpaio did not accept his apology and did not comment about whether there would be an investigation on the matter.

Question:  In your opinion, why didn't Sheriff Arpaio accept Bermudez apology?   Is he reasonable in refusing the apology or does it show his stubborness on reaching a peaceful agreement between both men?
