Wow-- three times in one week!

Today, there was another Southwest flight (coming in from Austin--what are the chances?) that had to make an emergency landing in Phoenix due to mechanical problems.

A few minutes later, ANOTHER flight--- this time, US Airways--had to turn around after having problems on its way to Las Vegas.

If you remember, on Monday, I was on the plane that blew a tire during landing.  It was coming in from Austin, and we (passengers) didn't know what was going on until we got jerked around during landing.

This is scary!  I fly A LOT, and this was the first time I have ever been evacuated from a plane.  What's even more disturbing, is that it's happened three times now-- in one week!

I'm NOT a nervous flyer, but I think I'm going to be after this....

I've been on flights that have been scary. Bad turbulence, mechanical problems, a man had a heart attack. It seems it happens all too often.
I used to love to fly but not anymore. It's a chore and a bother. I'll stick close to home or I'll drive to my destination.
I'm glad you're ok, btw.

I can actually answer this question,my father used to work for aerotech industries and was laid off work eventually quiting. The truth was that another person "a mexican" offered to work for the company for lesser wages.I had filed a political complaint worldwide about it.Nothing personal but for a major industry that specializes among manufacturing airplane engines it's a mistake for them to deligate.Cost expenditures is on the rise because when gas goes up,"well you know the answer to that".Anyhow now that the job economy is at an all low it's time for a vacation,I'm going to Florida!!! t.t.f.n.

I can understand your hesitance. I used to be a "white knuckle" flier myself. It would usually take approximately 5 or 6 gin and tonics just to get me to the gate. In the years since, I have flown much more, and now I occasionally drink a nice, dark Guiness for pleasure instead of necessity. I commend you for your fortitude in your trying flight, and hope this is your only brush with flight problems. My worst was a near miss with a private plane as we were landing at Charlotte (NC). We were moving towards the runway, and all of a sudden the flaps moved, the gear came back up and we went into a hard right banked turn. As the plane came around we saw the small plane where we "could" have been. It took several shots to get me on my connecting flight after that.

Since then (knocking on my head), nothing else.

Maybe we should put State Employees in the airports for back-up if the budget doesn't go through....wait....nevermind.

erdmier my husband worked at the same place and was laid off also, last Nov.

Oh guys thanks for posting!!! arghhh my kids fly back from the UK in 22 days (but whose counting) Think I need to not watch the news for 3 weeks, I get nervous enough when i know they are in the air without me :(

I have never had a bad flight, lucky I guess, only bad turbulence when flying into sky harbor, once we get over the Atlantic its normally a smooth ride. I always get butterflies before flying but really love it, normally.

The last time I flew was 2 yrs ago,Phoenix to Kentucky, one stop Cleveland,OH,what was supposed to be a 30 min.flight turned into a 2 hr nitghtmare. That was the about the time the landing gear didn't come down on the plane, forget now the state.Long story short Cleveland to Nashville,we were coming in for the landing next thing I know we are going back up dumb me I love the window seats. We circled went down again came back up.The flight attendant tells us not to be nervous but we might have to go over the crash material.Which she came back out a few minutes later to tell us the landing gear wasn't coming down and they were going to TRY to manually get it down.

Well needless to say coming in on the runway, they got it down but we,went clear to the end of the runway at a speed of I don't know how fast, stupid me I looked through the window ,we ended up facing a field, they towed us in.NOBODY KNEW ON THE GROUND WHAT HAD Happened but us.I have never flown since, that was the last. There were 2 other instances leaving Phoenix our pilot flew us right INTO THE MONSOON storm,I vowed the not to fly but dahh I gave it one more chance.NO WAY NO MORE!

Our whole infrastructure is collapsing because we can never find the money to fix these things, yet we can always seems to find billions to fight a war. TOo bad terrorism is such a hot buzz word right now. We are going to lose many more people to lack of funding. Blame the Republican war mongers. Let's just hope Americans are too smart to vote McCain.

Really its another affect of fuel cost. That proce goes up, they skimp on other things, and unfortunatley, safety appears to be next....

Isis, last night Linda announced breaking news at 10PM regarding yet another emergency landing at PHX. It was a Continental flight. It was reported/filmed briefly by Rick Crabbs in SkyFox. Today I cannot find any reference to the story here or on other news sites. Did this turn out to be a false alarm or yet another reason we should all be nervous fliers these days???

Sarahishot, I just asked our assignment desk about that, and I'm told there was a problem with the flaps on that plane. Geez!

It landed safely, and everyone made it okay...
