Call them what you want-- boobs, breasts, tatas...

The fact is, every woman has them--some are big, some are small, they even come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Now that I have your attention (or at least, I hope I do)-- did you know that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in her lifetime?

My mom was one of those women.  She passed away just one month ago-- after battling this horrible disease for well over a decade.  It was hard seeing the person who loves me most in this world, suffer so much because of breast cancer.  Even in her last moments, my mom never gave up hope.

Throughout my mom's battle, she was treated with numerous drugs, and several different types of chemotherapy.  Some of them worked for a while, some of them didn't, but ultimately, it made me realize one thing about cancer treatment-- research is important.

It's important to give breast cancer patients a fighting chance at beating this thing.   There is a serious need for better, more efficient drugs, as well as advanced, more improved cancer treatments.  I'm thankful that my mom's chemo was at first successful, and it prolonged her life for years.  But I'm also disappointed that when her cancer came back about a year and a half ago, no form of chemo worked on her.  There was no drug on the market that could help her, or anything doctors could do to save her life.

That's why I'm asking you to either donate, or participate in this year's City of Hope Walk for Hope for Breast Cancer.  It'll be Sunday morning, October 5, 2008, at the Phoenix Zoo.  It only costs $30 to participate in the walk, and you can donate as much or as little as you like.  Proceeds go to the City of Hope-- a cancer center that specializes in both innovative cancer research, and treatment of cancer patients.

Chances are, breast cancer will be a part of my life, again.  Maybe I'll be diagnosed, or maybe a sister, friend, or co-worker.  Either way, my hope is that when that time comes, we will have the drugs and treatment available to kill this disease, for good.

Please join me in bringing this hope to others:

Isis, I'm so sorry about your mom. I feel your grief. I lost my mom when I was 27 and she was 53. I have a best friend battling ovarian cancer right now and it's such a heart breaking thing to go through. I will pass this information along and see if I can get a group together to go on the walk.
Many men are developing breat cancer also and I think the cancer researchers should look into microwave ovens. A lot of people stand in front of the microwave waiting for their food. Just a thought. Have a Great Day!

Isis, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my mother 3 yrs ago, she was only 50. You never really know what people are feeling when a loss like this strikes, unless you yourself have been through it. My mother was my everything, and I her's. I cant even tell you how much my heart goes out to you.

A good friend of mine, her mother died last Sunday from breast cancer. Every year a group of us girls walk together at the Susan G race, but this year, we will all be walking in her honor.......

I'm so so sorry to hear about your loss. My prayers are with you during this time of restructure in your life. Time may heal all wounds Isis, but this type of wound takes much longer. So dont rush it, take your time healing, understanding and greiving......
God Bless you Isis, you and your family~

Breast Cancer has hit our family twice this last year. Thankfully, due to early detection and better treatment, they're both OK. My Sister just went through a rough 11 months, and Tuesday of this week she was declared cancer free. The staff at the hospital where she had a full mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation all met her in the waiting area to "ring the bell" which means another battle won.

We walked in the Susan G. event this year in Tucson in her behalf, and with our good friends Mother who was also declared cancer free. I was stunned at the sheer numbers who attended. There are some good stories on occasion that come out of this. New treatments are being tested daily. Sorry about your Mother though, Isis.

Pink Ribbon Tour Kick-Off. Join Dave Graybill and the Guardians of the Ribbon at 10:00 A.M. at Arrowhead Towne Center. Firefighter Dave Graybill and crew are looking for support from the motorcycle community as they begin their 2 month tour across America spreading the word about breast cancer awareness. The firefighters are looking for hundreds of motorcycle rider volunteers to escort them to Westgate City Center and on to Tucson. Come and check out the firefighters in pink suits, the pink ribbon fire truck and the 10 ft. stainless ribbon before escorting the "Men in Pink" out of town as they begin their "Cares Enough to Wear Pink Campaign". Riders are encouraged to wear pink proudly and donations will be accepted to help with fuel costs. Ride to honor a loved one who survived breast cancer, to remember one who didn't, or to encourage those women who have recently been diagnosed. To read more about Dave's vision from start to finish, to see pictures of the truck before and after as well as pictures of Governor Janet Napolitano with the truck, visit Dave's website at www.pinkribbontour.com. Very sorry to hear about your mom Isis. I will definitely donate to this worthy cause.

Is there a way to remain a little more anonymous? I can understand the email and/or cell phone to verify the credit card, but they want a little too much other personal information for someone like me with such a big mouth on the boards! :)

Thank you all so much for your support! I always knew we had the best viewers!

And SarahAcevedoIsHot (love the name, by the way), when you donate they need your personal information just for billing purposes, but no one (except me) sees it. Since I'm the team leader, I get an email notifying me of who donated. And don't worry, I won't post anything personal on the blog boards or elsewhere! Thanks for donating!

And NoFear, I will certainly pitch the Pink Ribbon Tour Kick-Off story to our weekend desk! Hopefully they have the time and staff to cover it on Sunday. Thanks for letting me know about it!

I got around it..sort of...at least on the first page :)

That personal info on the billing section will self-destruct in 5 seconds and the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of me!

the thing that burns me to no end is how disrespectable it is to every women on this earth, when I see men driving down the street, cranking thier head all around in a circle, not paying any attention to thier driving or anyone else that would like to get home safe, just to check out every women that walks down the street.

If eys could rape this would be illegal.

We all are born with special parts, but please lets keep the bed room in the bed room not on the road or sidewalk.
