Hey everybody....
Can you believe it?? After a seriously lack luster Arizona ski season last year, Flagstaff's Snowbowl is finally opening this weekend, January 20th. A sidebar here..I think snowbowl opened once last season,anyway... who's going??? I'm thinking our next weather maker will leave a calling card of an additional 2-4" of powder snow for Saturday's main event. This approaching system could also bring some soaking rains to a few valley locations (wouldn't that be nice:) The good news here is that record breaking cold will not accompany the front like the one earlier this week. My landscaping around the house will appreciate that! Also, catch our ski reports this weekend, Fox 10 news 5,9 & 10.

Hey Jayme!! I nearly fell over when i saw you blogging lol NICE TO SEE YOU :) Yes finally that will certainly help the economy up there in Flagstaff, we went up there 2 weeks ago to Flagstaff with the first lot of snow they had, there was about 4-5 inches at Munds Park in places the kids had a whole lot of fun (it was my 4 yr olds first time in the snow!!) Sounds like we should make another trip this weekend armed with sleds!!!
Rain did you say rain??? yessssssss!!! (never thought i would ever say that coming from UK heehee)

Britishchick...
Rather exciting isn't it?? I get totally pumped when weather moves into the state. Something to talk about and a little wet weather for the valley is always welcome. Considering the fact that we average somewhere around 7-8" of rain a year here in the desert. Not the case in the U.K. :)

Hi Jayme, yes it would put a little variation to your job, must be hard to find something to talk about normally apart from 'its going to be sunny and hot' hehehe.
Its weird for me to be excited about seeing rain, because back in UK its more like, heavens i wish it would stop raining!! lol.
The weather reporters back there have their work cut out!! They used to say we were going to get rain and it would be sunny and vice versa!! But the weather is so localised there and can change in a blink of an eye. The biggest boo boo the weather reporters made was they didnt see the hurricane coming back in the late 80's, no one was prepared for that!! Its not normal for hurricane force winds to happen, lots of gale force winds though.
And guess what!! We have been colder than the UK, my dad laughed his head off, i could have swatted him rofl :) (I am usually bragging about how nice and warm it is here)

Brit: "Its weird for me to be excited about seeing rain, because back in UK its more like, heavens i wish it would stop raining!! lol."

I said that for the first 3 years I lived in Oregon. Then I just gave up and lived with it for the next 7 years. After I came back south I never could tan right again..:o}

lol pvaz:)

Jayme how ironic that i should mention hurricanes and gale force winds in the UK before i even knew that a storm was sweeping across northern europe. At a city near my brother 87 mph winds have knocked over huge trees and torn off roofs!! In other places as well as France and Germany etc wind gusts were recorded over 100 mph!!
I am calling home in the morning to check and see if my family are all ok. I am a bit worried about them!!

I think the strongest wind gust was at 118 mph!!

Just called mom and dad in the UK, where they live on the South East Coast of England, recorded gusts were 90 mph!! Thankfully they suffered no real damage, but there was alot of trees down and tiles off roofs etc, one lady was actually blown over and fell into a wall, unfortunately she didnt make it!!! 10 deaths were reported in the UK due to these high winds.

No kidding!! We ran a story today at noon about the impact that storm had on Germany. Lots of wierd things going on in the world of weather lately. I think it really started with the lack of Atlantic hurricanes last Summer and the totally botched forecast that came with it. El Nino is back and quite strong. The super cold weather we had last week can certainly be traced to the El Nino phenom. I measured 18 degrees outside my home in Mesa Monday morning, temperatures that have not been recorded in decades. Expect another blast or two of Arctic air over the next 4-6 weeks. Rainfall like today's event will also become more common, perhaps more of what we experienced during the Winter of '05. These long lived soaking rains are great for the drought conditions though. Hopefully we can cash in on some extra rainy days this year. Gives us more to talk about too!

Todays rain sure is welcome!! Poor Cory i saw him today when we were picking kids up from school, i teased him and said its all his fault jokingly!! I feel so bad poor guy must get that all the time!! SORRY CORY :) He is a really good guy!!
They are now bracing themselves for cooler temps back in the UK and dreading the possible snow on Monday!! I found it so ironic that i should mention the hurricane in the UK and there it was shortly after only 10 mph shy of the wind strength of the hurricane in the 80's.
18 degrees brrrrrr that is chilly!!
My Aunt was walking to the hospital for appt and she found she couldnt walk against the wind it was literally blowing her backwards!! Is that El Nino in the UK also?? I didnt realise they got affected by it!!

Hi Jayme, Sorry it took so long to get back to your blog about Fla.I was there between 1972 and 1982 ,mostly Ft. Laud and then Pompano Beach.
I was in Kissimee in a resort treehouse (family vacation to Disneyworld) when hurricane Andrew hit. I was only 14 when my parents retired there from the military but I remember the gas shortage, and yes even a water shortage in Fla., you could only water your grass on odd number days of the month if your house number was an odd number, and I remember when Miami tried to change all the street signs to Spanish signs!
I could be mistaken but I kinda remember a news anchor named Ann Bishop and Glen Rinker? You are at least 20 years older than I am so you might not have heard of them. I miss fishing off the boat docks, never had a fishing boat. I did go drift fishing once but got very seasick.
Where do you fish now? Biggest fish I ever caught was 14lb Tarpin, what's your fish that got away story, or do you have any mounted sailfish? (big in my family) These blogs are so old but couldnt find a way to e-mail you directly, could you give me a clue on your web site? I loved last nights storm reminds me of Fla. I know youve been here for four years now but welcome anyway, sometimes I feel like "a fish outta water" (literally) here how bout you?

Hi guys and gals.... I'm native to Miami, Florida, but feel right at home here in AZ (less humidity and rage filled drivers though.) When I'm not in the studios here at Fox 10 or doing some zany report from the field, I enjoy time with the wife and my little girl, cheering on the MIAMI DOLPHINS, or fishing our area lakes for the elusive largemouth bass or the tastiest fish in fresh water...the Crappie...doesn't sound to tasty, but they are!
