If you travel the Loop 101 or watch the local news, you're likely familiar with the whole photo radar concept. How would you feel if the cameras were to show up on say the I-10 or the Loop 202??? There's talk in the Governor's office to make this a reality. What are your thoughts?? I spoke with a few folks this morning and reactions were mixed...yes & no. Do you think it's a violation of your rights or an added safety measure to crack down on speeders and reckless drivers??

I vote for the added safety measure. If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. I think it is a sad commentary on society that some can't abide by the law unless they are being watched. It's no different than surveillance cameras anywhere else.

Something needs to be done to slow down drivers in this valley.

If one drives the speed limit then photo radar will not be a problem. People do not get to pick which laws apply to them and which ones were passed only for the other guy.

If you obey the rules of the road the cameras shouldn't bother you Its a good way to inforce the rules while the police officers do their thing on patrol.

I'm all for the photo radar cameras. I don't know if I'd feel any safer with them, because you're going to have unsafe drivers with or without the cameras. But it was proven on the part of loop 101 that people actually did slow down so I think the cameras are a good thing. If you have nothing to hide, why worry if they're there? Cameras are everywhere in this day & age. If people would slow down & not be in such a hurry there wouldn't be as many rollovers as we have here. From where I moved from, you hardly ever heard of a rollover accident but then people didn't drive as fast either or if they did, they were safer drivers.

I agree with ohiokid about the lack of citizen rights to fight the ticket. Electronics are not infallible and just because your picture is taken does not necessarily make you guilty.

My b-i-l is retired DPS and my dh is retired CCSO reserve officer. I would much rather take a ticket from a person and have a chance to at least try to explain my actions! lol

And the reason they want to use the cameras is because they don't have enough officers to patrol. If they treated their officers better, they wouldn't have such a problem keeping their ranks filled!

Also if they are going to be raking in the dough, then that money should go toward hiring more DPS officers. The Valley isn't the only place that needs more staff!

Speed isn't the only reason accidents happen. And what about the idiots that drive too slow, and in the left lane? The cameras won't do a thing about them. They can cause as many problems as speeders. But like the saying goes, you can't stop stupid!

I hated my picture on the photo radar ticket. I looked like a deer in the headlights. lol

That said, the use of the roadways is a privilege, not a "right." If people were responsible enough to drive safely, there would be no need for photo radar.

I am all for added patrols but cameras are an invasion of our privacy. Being a citizen, I do not feel it is right to be watched all the time by a camera. I do have a few speeding tickets in my 12 years of driving..I think I have 27 or close to it, so a camera will probably get me another one, although I hardly speed anymore.

Sure..why not..?? Let the wealthiest community in Arizona conduct a state level project that other communities would be held liable for, nore than likely to fund a local artsy project, then allow them to blackmail the state into incurring the future funding and maintenance. Just say NO..!!! Keep the cameras off..!! Snottsdale should not dictate to We the People of Arizona, how our taz dollars are spent..!! Rest assured ..karma will get the speeders, the safe drivers will remain safe, and we shall walk away with what we have left of our citizens' rights..!! big brother is watching.

I say the Governor should seriously think about putting out speed cameras on all the highways. Loop 101, 202, the 10, Grand. 51, 17 and any highway that isn't covered 100% of the time. Think about the revenue that could come in. It could go to help pollution, highway maintenance, and education.

I know that the school my son attends can't even allow him to take home his science or language book because they don't have enough to go around. He's in the 6th grade. So, put those camera's up and while you do that.

Places that want them on the roads: Union Hills, Bell, and Thunderbird the city that is responsible for that section of the road should maintain those cameras. I think the Governor should be thinking of the State Roads first. The city roads should be the concern of the city it is located in. Just like red light runners, those cameras should be maintained by the city it is located in. Revenue for the state and city level. It's a win win situation. It's worth a try.

Hi guys and gals.... I'm native to Miami, Florida, but feel right at home here in AZ (less humidity and rage filled drivers though.) When I'm not in the studios here at Fox 10 or doing some zany report from the field, I enjoy time with the wife and my little girl, cheering on the MIAMI DOLPHINS, or fishing our area lakes for the elusive largemouth bass or the tastiest fish in fresh water...the Crappie...doesn't sound to tasty, but they are!
