I certainly don't think cracking down on illegal immigrants in Mesa was Chief Gascon's idea.  My sense is city leaders (who he serves at the pleasure of) didn't like the idea that Joe Arpaio was making Mesa look soft on immigration.  So they told the Chief, we've got to show voters in our city, we're serious about illegal immigration.  We're seeing a united front by Mayor Smith and the chief, but I think Gascon was forced to go a direction, he might not have on his own.

You are correct on your hypothesis of the situation in Mesa. City leaders are highly conservative in Mesa and they had to show their citizens who are against illegal immigration that they were going to do something about the issue. It is a political move to apeace anti-immigrant sentiment in the city while at the same time, finding ways not to anger latino citizens who feel threatened by all of this immigrant initiatives in the state that have been popping up recently.

Its not immigration, Hook! Its illegal alienism. It is not anti immigrant sentiment you PC thug, it is an anti law breaker anti criminal sentiment. Clowns don't change the minds of anyone, especially me.

Hook you overlook the obvious. The legal citizens of Mesa want the police to enforeceimmigration laws. Gascon doesn't want to so now he is being forced to by the new city gov. I think he should be fired.

And it's not like DPS didnt make the same exact policy, what a month and half ago? I didnt forget. Do you think they did it for the same reasons as you suggest Mesa did it, or was it to keep dummycrats from being all willy-nilly with pc terms like "racist" or "profiling", and to show true effectiveness instead of media grandstanding?

This is all fishy to me. Why would Gascon want a warning if he wasn't doing something wrong. I personally do care for Sheriff Joe. However, he is doing his job. If he messes up and gets the wrong person for being a suspected illegal, just another law suit against him. Wouldn't surprise me any if he made that major mistake. Especially if it was a set up for Sheriff Joe and not able to prove it. Now that would really scratch the back side of some legal Mexican getting money from the Sheriff.

What you are forgeting is that there is a wrong way and a right way to do everything especially when working in a lawful capacity. Since last year, the state of Arizona has been working towards lawful resolutions that would fix this situation that economic growth put us in. Joe likes to grand stand, and I argue, doesn't know much about the law, or, if he does, he certainly doesn't respect and follow the law. Whatever it is, it is dangerous. Fortunately, there are people who are involved in running cities and state entities who do know, understand and respect the law. For further explanation, see my blog "The Portrait of an Intelligent Politicican".

Rygg---when people treat others differently based on the color of their skin and the language they speak, it is racial profiling, discrimination and anti-illegal sentiment. When Ken's sister in law doesn't get arrested for not having insurance and a 17 yr old juvenile is arrested for a broken tail light and not having his papers on him, that is an injustice and goes against everything the USA stands for. To believe that what Joe is doing is right is either ignorant or unpatriotic, which one are you?

You don't get arrested for not having insurance you get cited & a court date. You show the judge you have insurance & you stand an excellent chance of having the citation dismissed. The same with the tail light & proper documentation on immigration & tail light. From my exp riding with the police & dps everyone has an excuse for breaking the law
or tries to lie their way out of a citation.

Rygg, thanks for setting the record straight, "it is an anti law breaker anti criminal sentiment."

It' doesn't matter how PC you get. There's a police chief on the job that doesn't understand his job description and it's costing legal residents everything and he is responsible. Illegal aliens get away with crimes citizens never dream of, they take advantage of our laws and use them to cover their butts. They have lawyers who will show them how to get around our laws pro bono. I haven't heard one decent comment from anyone one on these PC trips acknowledging that legal residents are paying for illegal immigration and suffering because of it.

aksjfd- If you knew how to read you would see that I am in support of Gascon, and never in support of Joke so to answer your pathetic question, NEITHER. And as far as the leftist attitude that this is all racial profiling, when a cop is given a discription of a hispanic male, whos he supposed to go after, a white guy? Is Dr. McCoy being racist for caling Spock green blooded? No, he is stating a fact. Your only saying that because you think illegal aliens are entitled to something of which they are not. You are using the race card to further their agendenda in typical crat form. What DPS and Mesa are doing takes away your argument. Furthermore, talking out of the side of your neck about "profiling" when really your just pizzed that people whom shouldn't even be here are getting sent back to where they came from is rediculouse. Thats why I love what Mesa and DPS are doing. Now you cant pull the race card. HA HA!

AZrazz--you are right, Joe is breaking the law. So, you are supporting a man who does things that you don't like.

Rygg--so you think what Joe is doing is wrong, then.

Jane--the immigration laws are unjust. If there was a law that you could only have one kid, would you kill your extra kids because that was the law?

Have you read anything Ive posted, ever? Joke can't do anything right as far as I am concerned. But neither can the illegal aliens. I know Joke is wrong as I know the illegal aliens are wrong. They both need to get out of my city/state/zip.
Here is an excerpt from Ken of AZ's blog that I wrote:
I think it is the same thing DPS does. I think it is a fair way to say fair well to illegal aliens without a big waste of tax money for the sake of fat head Jokes media whoring. I think it keeps the whistleblower dummycrats from saying words like "racism" and "profiling". I think it keeps riot potential down in the path of my way home from work because of aggrivations from Joke. (Thank you Chief Gascon for keeping me safe at Baseline and Mesa Dr.). All in all, I think it's great.

aksjfd ..... can you write 'I N S' in Spanglish?
Are you legal?
Do you despise America as much as your writings dictate you do?

There is something wrong when the people violating the law have more rights (or think they do) than law abiding citizens and law enforcement. I do not agree with any two day rule giving advance notice where law enforcement will be. That's the height of stupidity to give the criminal element a warning. Get real people. Sheriff Joe doesn't make a town look soft if the town is doing it's job.

AZRazz, Not in this state. Arizona is broke, the courts collect for Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle acts as the courts Bill Collector!
This has nothing to do with immigration because there isn't a $5,000 Bond and a $50.00 misdemeanor charge corresponding with it.
Plus you have to go to court in a different district court because the surrounding ones are broke and looking for ways to simply collect money they spent on a 20,000,000,000 pool with 300,000 in taxpayer paid encentives.

The only direction the Mesa mayor and city council should be showing Gasbag is the one that leads from 130 N. Robson to westbound I10...and back to L.A. The sooner the better.

JHook blogs, "cracking down on illegal immigrants in Mesa...."
This issue is country wide for some not aware or who are just following the news in Arizona.
Some City Officials in California complaining ICE is not enforcing all or not doing enough to support Immigration Laws their to more drug & crime activities in that state are being committed by additional "Illegal Immigrants.
Other issues in other states, money wire transfer being made to Mexico from surrounding states near Arizona to pay smugglers.
As mentioned by a someone replying to a blog, the issues/complaints seems to evolve around becoming a U.S. Citizen the "legal" way.
Question is are those other City Officials in other states who are attempting to enforce Immgration Laws experiencing the same protesting as some official here in Arizona??
