Some idiot kids climed over a fence at Six Flags amusement park, dispite no trespassing signs in the area.  One 17 year old got too close to equipment and got decapitated.  (OUCH)

More than likely the family will try to sue?  Should they be awarded any money?  If so, how much?  I think the family should be sued for the amount of money the park lost when they shut down to investigate this stupid deed that the kid did.

Parents, teach your kids to obey rules.  Rules are there for a reason.  It just might save their lives.

Yes, the amusement park should sue the family.
I hear the parents were there the day the kid climbed 2 6ft fences lined with warnings. Where were the parents when the kid decided he needed to retrieve his hat? Why didn't they tell him he wasn't allowed to scale 2 6ft fences to retrieve a stupid hat?
I'm sorry the boy lost his life but as you said "Rules are there for a reason".

Its a bad sign when someone dies and the first thing we talk about is how a corporation should keep their money.

Those parents lost a child let them grieve a while before you start assigning blame.

It isn't called blame tucker...its called responsibility. And that is the problem!

People do not take responsibility for their actions and the actions of their children, and when a situation like this arises, it eventually ends up in court with the parents asking for money.

My niece lost her crown on a ride at California Adventure. Had we not been there to stop her, she would have done the same thing. She was heart-broken, but lesson learned. When aunty askefj says not to wear your crown b/c it might fall off, you should listen.

The second thing I thought about when I heard about this kid was lawsuit. That is just what this country has turned into - unfortunately. I hope to God that there is not one dime exchanged for the stupidity of this person and/or his family. Imagine the poor people who had to take care of his remains. It is just tragic.

the kid was TRESSPASSING what else needs to be said. sorry for the family but these kinds of things are what makes people "rich" in the name of sueing the place of business to "make sure this don't happen to some other TRESPASSER" teach these multimillion dollar companies a lesson. c'mon the kid should not have been in that area to begin with. he was old enough to read i'm sure but the thrill of going to a place such as six flags overwelmed him and he just ignored everything else.

FENCES DON'T WORK?

If fences don't work, why don't we remove the one that goes around the White House? Why is there one around Luke AFB? Why is ther one around the company that I work for? Fences are not 100% protective. But they are a deterrent. Some people will climb fences and have to face the consequences. On a border fence, it needs to be a block wall with a trench in front of it so it isn't easy to cut or drive through, you will have to go over the top. And when you go over the block wall, you fall into about three feet deep and ten feet long of razor wire. To get out, you will have to climb up the same wall you jumped over or continue going into thicker, deeper razor wire and climb a 6 foor barbed wire fence. Climbing the barbed wire fence will trigger an alarm so the border patrol can come out there to bring you to the hospital. If you don't bleed to death, you will at least spend some time in a hospital and get a transfusion so you can learn a lesson and go back to your home country and show the scars you got for trying to come here illegally. Word will soon get out that going over the fence is not a wise choice.

This is a case of someone being killed by their own stupidity. Something that doesn't happen often enough in this country. Why?
Because the bleeding hearts have decided that we, society as a whole, are responsible for protecting the stupid from themselves. The result? The stupid are a burden on society, and everyone they come in contact with, until the day they DO draw their final breath. And, they reproduce at a high rate of speed, bringing equally stupid offspring into the world, to further burden society.
I can't say I feel sorry for the kid, or the parents. They raised the moron, so how smart can they be? And what kind of a burden on society have they been all of their lives?
So many morons, so few roller coasters!

It is very sad that this child was killed over a stupid hat. However, we all do stupid things as teenagers because when you are that young you are either trying to show off or you don't realize the danger you are putting yourself in.

I don't think the park should pay if there were in fact TWO 6 ft. fences that had to be climbed and there was probably signage stating that it was a non-public area.

What we should teach our children is how to speak up for themselves. Perhaps the kids could have gone to the office/lost&found to filed a claim for the hat if it was really that important.

Either way, it is a lesson we can all teach our children.

aks,

You brought up a good point. Tell Dave Munsey to start telling us to take down the fences around pools. They don't work anyway, look at how many kids have drowned so far this year.

Stupid fences, what a waste! Oh and signs telling people to stay away too. Maybe we should fire all the teachers because obviously people can't read.

Sadly there will be some lawyer who will take the case and try to spin it so the park is at fault. Some dazed jury will feel sorry for the parents and award them bazillions in damages, some judge will sleep through it and wake up long enough to say "whatever."
