Are there any parents out there planning to install a pool fence and trying to decide if they should choose iron, mesh, vinyl or netting? Are you also trying to find the right company to install the fence?

My kids grew up in a house with no pool fence. Not even once did any of them or any of their friends come close to getting in trouble in the water. Fences are a very small deterrent. I have seen a three year old climb a pool fence like a monkey to get to the latch. If you don't watch them while they are in the pool no fence will protect them. As Dave Munsey says " watch your kids around water". That is the only way to insure their safety.

I'm not looking for any fencing but I talk to people weekly about different pool fencing. The companies Im aware of have been very good and reasonably priced. Why? Do you have a big scoope on something?

I agree with RDJVZ.

Hockeymom: I'm working on a story about the types of pool fences and finding the right company to install them. I'd like to speak with parents trying to make these decisions.

I gotta agree with RDJVZ on this one. A fence shouldn't be doing a parents job. As the big Munsey says....WATCH YOUR KIDS AROUND WATER !!!

I think we can all agree that a pool fence is a good idea. What ever happened to parents ?? does anyone remember mon and dad ??? Fact I was born with a pool in the back yard. Fact I was born October 1 1961 at 11:45 P.M ok I was born at night but not last night. Fact I could swim or atleast not drown before I could walk. Fact if you could not swim you could not come to our house ya this was for ANYONE but lets look at the facts ok. mom and dad buy a house with a pool live there for a few years. then there world stops "child drowns". This I do not understand the parents buy a house and they dont teach the kids how to swim. I find it like giveing your 16 yr old the car for the night and not teaching them how to drive and then being mad when you find out that they had a crash and died.
YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE BY PULLING IT OUT OF THE POOL

OR

YOU CAN ENJOY LIFE BY TEACHING HOW TO SWIM

It's your choice

I grew up in South Florida, playing our version of Little League on the clay fields of South Miami. My dad coached. My mom still doesn't forgive me for my foul ball which almost took off her head. My favorite childhood moment: Dad and I screaming in the Orange Bowl when his Alma Mater, the University of Miami Hurricanes, beat the previously invinsible Nebraska Cornhuskers. Football still reigns supreme. When I wasn't swinging a racket or holding a bat, my mom got me writing, initially for my junior high school paper. I'm still writing today and watching (no longer playing) sports. Now I share life with my wonderful wife, a cat who acts like a dog and a dog who likes chasing the cat.
