Do you know someone who uses rabbit ears or an antenna for their TV instead of cable or satellite?

Hi Keith, I use a roof mounted antenna.

BOB54: I'm working on a story about TV stations transferring to a digital signal. People using antennas without cable or satellite need a converter box by next Feb. For the story, I want to interview someone who still uses an antenna. What if I interview you?

My parents also use a roof mounted antenna. I bought them a HDTV with both a HD and regular tuner about a year ago, when their old tv died. They plan on getting converter boxes for their bedroom tv's as well as the tv's in the guest rooms, but for the kitchen tv (13") it just makes more sense to buy a new tv. When the others die off new tv's will obiviously be HDTV's. Nothing wrong with using air signals since most cable/sattelite channels are BLEEP anyway, why pay for them?

keith--what is the government's purpose for requiring digitalization?

Our Aunt lives in Sun City. She uses a roof antenna and gets more channels than what we get with basic cable. We did buy her a convertor box since she refuses to get cable. Hey Bob, Sun City might be the perfect place to get an interview. :o)

dhw - the purpose is to move forward and to make money! The government is selling (up for bid) the analog lines to the cellular phone companies since we are running out of phone lines.

Go for it Bob! Do the interview!

When another station did a test to see if people with cable and satellite would be ok during the switchover I called friends and family and asked them to watch to see if their tv's would stay with the station. The ones who had Cox cable had a regular picture, those of us who had Directv went to snow.

I called Directv to ask if their customers were going to be taken care of, like the cable customers, and all the rep could tell me was to buy the box. I told her I would switch to cable if Directv wasn't going to take care of their customers like cable was doing. So, I still don't know if I will have tv when the switch happens but will have Cox's number handy if I don't.

Several people on this blog know people who use rabbit ears or antennas. Anyone OK with doing interviews for my story, give me call. Call the newsroom at 602-262-5109. Ask for me. By the way, the government has a website called dtv.gov. It explains why all this is happening. Check it out. Thank you.

I have rabbit ears. Only because I am on SSI and can't afford cable anymore.

Does using a fork to change the channel count?

I believe that the government should've grandfathered current stations/networks and let those stations decide whether or not to switch to a digital format. This would allow people who do not have (or cannot afford) cable/satellite or the converter box. Once again, this is our government that doesn't care about working-class America.

I just want to say Thank you to all of Fox, for airing the 3 missing plus mother in Black Canyon City. That is my Dearly loved sister and her children. I tried 2 times last week to put a missing persons out on her and her kids but yavapai sheriff would not do it for me. they finally did on the 20th .. Thanks Fox 10 again. We miss her and the kids and just hope that everything will turn out for the best.

I grew up in South Florida, playing our version of Little League on the clay fields of South Miami. My dad coached. My mom still doesn't forgive me for my foul ball which almost took off her head. My favorite childhood moment: Dad and I screaming in the Orange Bowl when his Alma Mater, the University of Miami Hurricanes, beat the previously invinsible Nebraska Cornhuskers. Football still reigns supreme. When I wasn't swinging a racket or holding a bat, my mom got me writing, initially for my junior high school paper. I'm still writing today and watching (no longer playing) sports. Now I share life with my wonderful wife, a cat who acts like a dog and a dog who likes chasing the cat.
